Bruno Mars takes top spot with most monthly listeners on Spotify

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Local boy Bruno Mars has reached a huge musical milestone this month, breaking the record as the artist with the most monthly listeners on Spotify.
Mars has never received this recognition before.
As of Oct. 31, the “Die With A Smile” singer and Roosevelt High graduate exceeded 120 million listeners.
Mars surpassed the previous title holder, The Weeknd, who had 119.5 million listeners.
What makes this milestone particularly remarkable is that Mars has only been a part of two singles released this year, “Die With A Smile” with Lady Gaga and “APT” with ROSÉ.
The Weeknd, whose real name is Abel Makkonen Tesfaye, has a long history as the artist with the most monthly listeners on Spotify. He was the first artist given the title when Spotify made the feature public in September 2015.
Since then, he has held the title on and off for months at a time and, so far in 2024, has held the title every month except June, when Billie Eilish briefly took the crown, and now October.
Mars’ accomplishment comes on the heels of yet another milestone, this time with Billboard. “APT” made its debut at the top of the Billboard Global 200 and Billboard Global Excl. U.S. charts this week, dethroning “Die With A Smile.”
According to Billboard, he’s both the first act to replace himself at No. 1 and take the top two spots simultaneously on each list since Sabrina Carpenter earlier this year with “Espresso” and “Please Please Please.”
